Linux的桌面用户通常使用小型的硬盘和分区，但服务器需要一个大的分区。例如，使用fdisk命令您不能创建4TB的分区，它不会允许您创建的分区大于2TB。在本教程中，您将了解如何创建更大Linux文件系统分区。

Linux desktop user generally uses small hard disk and partition, but on server you need a large partition. For example, you cannot create 4TB partition size (RAID based) using fdisk command. It will not allow you to create a partition that is greater than 2TB. In this tutorial, you will learn more about creating Linux filesystems greater than 2 Terabytes to support enterprise grade operation under any Linux distribution.

To solve this problem use GNU parted command with GPT. It supports Intel EFI/GPT partition tables. Partition Table (GPT) is a standard for the layout of the partition table on a physical hard disk. It is a part of the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) standard proposed by Intel as a replacement for the outdated PC BIOS, one of the few remaining relics of the original IBM PC. EFI uses GPT where BIOS uses a Master Boot Record (MBR).

GPT Kernel Support

EFI GUID Partition support works on both 32bit and 64bit platforms. You must include GPT support in kernel in order to use GPT. If you don’t include GPT support in Linux kernelt, after rebooting the server, the file system will no longer be mountable or the GPT table will get corrupted. By default Redhat Enterprise Linux / CentOS comes with GPT kernel support. However, if you are using Debian or Ubuntu Linux, you need to recompile the kernel. Set CONFIG_EFI_PARTITION to y to compile this feature.

Linux create 3TB partition size

One of my clients has Raid 5 Array -7x500GB hard disks to store large data. To create partition start GNU parted as follows:
# parted /dev/sdx
Output:

GNU Parted 1.8.1
Using /dev/sdx
Welcome to GNU Parted! Type 'help' to view a list of commands.
(parted)

Creates a new GPT disklabel i.e. partition table:
mklabel gpt
Create 3TB partition size:
mkpart primary 0 3001G
Quit and save the changes:
quit
Use mkfs to format file system:
# mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdx1

Note: Replace /dev/sdx with actual RAID or disk name or block Ethernet device such as /dev/etherd/e0.0 . Don’t forget to update /etc/fstab, if necessary.

懒人可以直接下载这个脚本执行以下，执行脚本需要root权限

当然如果是实验环境还可以选择使用本地光盘作为yum源

把光盘加载到本地

[root@localhost CentOS]# mount /dev/cdrom /media

在/etc/yum.repos.d/目录下，有两个文件

CentOS-Base.repo和CentOS-Media.repo

其中CentOS-Base.repo记录着网络上的yum源的地址和路径信息等

CentOS-Media.repo记录着可以从本地作为yum源的介质和路径。其中还有这样一个说明：

解决Fedora 11中文字体难看问题

使用Linux时我个人倾向使用英文环境系统，而在英文环境下中文字体有时会不太好看。

以下是我的配置方案，经测试效果还算不错：

使用uming和ukai字体:

关键是使用的字体包如下：
首先要安装这两个字体：
cjkunifonts-ukai
cjkunifonts-uming

然后配置一下~/.fonts.conf文件. 使sans-serif serif monospace字体中文使用uming/ukai即可.

.fonts.conf文件下载:
http://sites.google.com/site/ericzqma/files/.fonts.conf?attredirects=0

下载后放到自己的$HOME下就可以了。

使用uming字体效果如下（请放大后看效果）：

fedora11下安装mplayer最新版(适用于常见linux发行版)

参考了不知名作者的安装步骤，编译安装时根据MPlayer v1.0rc2的./configure –help做了相应修改。

下面是很黄很暴力的效果图

(一) 下载的相关包

下载路径：http://www.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/

src: MPlayer v1.0rc2

skin: Blue-1.7.tar.bz2

font: gb2312-ming.tar.bz2

codecs:all-20071007.tar.bz2 essential-20071007.tar.bz2

(二) 安装codec

[root@jeantoe Download]#tar jxvf all-20071007.tar.bz2

[root@jeantoe Download]#mv all-20071007 /usr/lib/codecs

[root@jeantoe Download]#tar jxvf essential-20071007.tar.bz2

[root@jeantoe Download]#mv essential-20071007 /usr/lib/wincodecs

(三) 安装MPlayer

[root@jeantoe Download]#yum install -y gtk2-devel glib2-devel zlib* gcc

[root@jeantoe Download]#tar jxvf MPlayer-1.0rc2.tar.bz2

[root@jeantoe Download]#cd MPlayer-1.0rc2

[root@jeantoe Download]# ./configure –enable-gui –enable-largefiles –enable-menu –prefix=/usr/local/mplayer –codecsdir=/usr/lib/codecs –win32codecsdir=/usr/lib/wincodecs/ –confdir=/etc/mplayer –cc=gcc3 –disable-ivtv

[root@jeantoe Download]# make
[root@jeantoe Download]# make install

(四) 安装字体、皮肤等用于美化界面

[root@jeantoe Download]# tar xjvf gb2312-ming.tar.bz2
[root@jeantoe Download]# mv gb2312-ming /usr/local/mplayer/share/mplayer/font/
[root@jeantoe Download]#cd /usr/local/mplayer/share/mplayer/font/
[root@jeantoe Download]#ln -s gb2312-ming font

安装皮肤

[root@jeantoe Download]# mv Blue /usr/local/mplayer/share/mplayer/skins/
[root@jeantoe Download]# cd /usr/local/mplayer/share/mplayer/skins/
[root@jeantoe skins]# ln -s Blue default

(五)桌面启动/创建启动器

名称: MPlayer
命令: /usr/local/mplayer/bin/gmplayer

然后选择一个你喜欢的图标.

也可以在终端用/usr/local/mplayer/bin/gmplayer 启动.

(六) 故障分析及其解决
安装完后，我们启动MPlayer，有可能会出现如下这样的错误:　　”New_Face faild. Maybe the font path is wrong. 　　please supply the text font file. ( ~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf ).”
这时候我们用系统自带的字体来代替.

[root@jeantoe Download]# cd /usr/share/fonts/chinese/TrueType
[root@jeantoe Download]# cp gbsn00lp.ttf ~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf 这样就解决了字体问题了.
